The City Introduces "Ready Providence"

As part of City's plan to prepare Providence for "all hazards" the Providence Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) has launched "Ready Providence".

What is "Ready Providence"?

The "Ready Providence" Campaign is designed to educate and empower Providence residents to prepare for and respond to emergencies, including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks. The "Ready Providence" Campaign asks individuals to do three key things to prepare for the unexpected: get an emergency supply kit, make a family emergency plan, and be informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur and their appropriate responses.

Student Tools for Emergency Planning (STEP)

STEP teaches 5th grade students what to do in emergency scenarios and empowers them to implement life-saving preparedness initiatives in their homes. Students learn how to assemble emergency kits and form family communication plans, two staple activities of a well prepared household.

During the 2009-2010 school year Providence Public Schools trained 1,900 5th grade students. During the 2010-2011 school year we added another 1,900 students to the rolls of the most prepared students in the entire state.

Individuals interested in more information about family and business preparedness can visit Ready.gov or call 1-800-BE-READY to receive free materials.
